The Above and Beyond Programme
It has been a wonderful start to the Above and Beyond Programme 2020/21. Despite Covid-19 restrictions, over 45 students from across years 9,10, and 11 have begun to submit outstanding quality work to their chosen subject google classrooms. Tasks include wider reading, extended writing, verbal presentations, peer leadership, and completion of a practical based activity.
The aim of the programme is to develop a culture of intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour in subjects students are passionate about, and in topics which may not appear on the curriculum. All work is completed outside of lesson time.
Those who have particularly impressed are Muskaan (Year 10) who explored the gender pay gap on the world’s sporting stage in the Sports Science classroom, Maleeha (Year 9) who examined how maps have been used for political influence in the Earth Sciences classroom, and Tahmid (Year 9) who produced a brilliant piece of extended writing about The Space Race and the impact it has had on modern day society in the Science classroom.
Staff have been particularly impressed by the standard of work submitted and are providing support to students to ensure this high standard is consistently maintained, as well as providing academic challenge for students.
