Five Denbigh students accepted onto the Berkhamsted Scholarship 2022
The partnership between Denbigh and Berkhamsted continues to go from strength to strength, and we are delighted to announce that five of our brilliant students have been successful in attaining a place at the prestigious school to undertake their A level studies as of September 2022.
This year the application process was the most rigorous yet. Students wrote application letters, delivered presentations, took academic tests, debated on global issues, and had a day of interviews with a variety of different panels at Berkhamsted School itself. The standard was exceptionally high, and the decision making process was the toughest it has ever been.
Previously the partnership has been cited by the Commission for Social Equality as exemplary practice in its report to Parliament. In the interest of raising the aspirations for young people across the town, Denbigh has reached out to other Chiltern Learning Trust schools to offer the opportunity to them. This year our successful applicants will be joined by their peers from Challney Boys, Challney Girls, and Putteridge.
Mrs Corder (Assistant Headteacher for Aspiration) said ‘We are delighted to have established such a positive relationship with Berkhamsted Sixth, and have seen how such an opportunity has been truly life changing for our students. It only felt right to share our work with other CLT schools, in the absolute belief that aspiration is for all, not just some. We are so proud of our students, and proud of our wonderful town’.
After a nervous few days, students were given news of the assessment outcome.
