Our work in the community

The sports college has made a very positive impact on the local community by extending the range of opportunities for people to lead a healthy lifestyle.

There are strong links with local organisations and community groups who make good use of the facilities and we provide a wide range of sports activities for all age groups outside of normal school hours and in the school holidays.

We are also linked very closely the district School Games Organiser to ensure that we:

  • work closely with other agencies for example the Sports Development Team and Healthy Schools to support and enhance school sport provision across the family of schools
  • support primary link teachers in developing sport in their school
  • engage and involve more young people in community sport
  • identify, deploy and develop appropriate young people as leaders, coaches and officials
  • support the identification and development of talented young performers
  • work with the Head of PE to monitor and evaluate the impact of PE and school sport in raising whole school standards.

We also have many partnerships in place with local community action organisations. We support them by providing reduced facility hire and direct links between the school and specifically identified sports activities. These include disability groups and a range of community groups providing social education opportunities and diversionary activities through the use of sport.

Our pupils also experience leadership opportunities such as helping out with the organising and running of primary school sports festivals as well as after school and lunchtime clubs. This helps to build confidence and develop pupils as future leaders in all walks of life.
