On Thursday 12th February the Year 7 boys basketball team visited Lealands High School to battle it out with other schools from Luton for the title of 'Under 12 Town Champions'.
The boys sailed to an 8-2 victory over Stopsley in their first match, with an inspirational performance from Jacob Christie providing many of the baskets! The next game was a much closer call and Denbigh could only hold Cardinal Newman to a 5-5 draw. However, Denbigh's fortunes were again fruitful in a wonderful exhibition of skills that resulted in a well earned 8-6 victory over Lea Manor. Man of the match Radhi Islam said ' That game was really tough, my legs have turned to jelly!'
All Denbigh now had to do was contain an exceptionally strong Icknield side to a draw. A tired Denbigh struggled in the first 5 minutes and things were starting to look bleak. However, the desire to work hard and play for each other overcame the boys, and will 10 seconds left on the clock, Captain Brian Chimani shot from the half way line. With their breaths held, Denbigh watched on as the ball floated into the net. An elated Denbigh had done it, they were now the Year 7 Town Champions, and had earned a place in the County Tournament.
Kasim Hussain said of his teams victory ' It has been simply brilliant! I can't wait to represent Denbigh at the County Tournament and show people what we can really do!'
