STATUTORY NOTICE AND FULL PROPOSAL FOR CHANGE TO FOUNDATION SCHOOL STATUS

20 April 2009

Notice is given in accordance with section 19(3) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that The Governing Body of Denbigh High School intends to make a prescribed alteration to Denbigh High School, Alexandra Avenue, Luton, LU3 1HE. The proposed alteration is to Change School Category from Community to Foundation from 1 September 2009.

The reason for considering Foundation Status is to further improve our school Although our most recent Ofsted report stated that "this is an outstanding school", we are not complacent and are determined to work hard for further improvement. We see Foundation status as being a key component in our future development as it will enable the school to continue to raise standards through closer partnership with the local community and services for young people. By becoming a Foundation school we will be able to share experiences with other schools across the country and learn from each other as we develop strategies and processes for improvement.

There is an expectation from government that schools will take a lead in delivering the Every Child Matters agenda, the vision of Extended Schools and the Childrens Plan. The additional freedoms open to us as a Foundation school and our commitment to co-operate with other agencies will, we believe, be an important component in our schools development of these initiatives.

This Notice is an extract from the complete proposal. Copies of the complete proposal can be obtained from: Teresa Kelly, Clerk to Governors at the school address, or by telephone on 01582 798995, or you can download it here:
