We recognise that starting a new school can be an exciting but anxious time for students. We have excellent links and close working arrangements with our partner primary schools to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible.
The process of starting at their new school starts before students arrive, with many of them already familiar with the school through sporting activities and previous links with siblings and families. During the transition day in year 6, students are given the opportunity to meet their new teachers, find their way around their new school (helped by the year 8 ‘buddies’) and begin to learn about their new environment. All families are given the opportunity to meet their child’s tutor and discuss any individual features about their child’s transfer before they join us.
All students in year 7 take part in an extensive induction programme during which they consolidate a range of skills and knowledge to help them settle in and to understand our standards and expectations. This enables them to make the most of their learning opportunities and become excellent ambassadors for Denbigh High School in the wider community.
We also have excellent information, advice and guidance for learners as they progress through school and extensive links with post-16 providers to help them make the best choices and progress on to courses which will enable them to be successful in the future.
