The Chief Executive of the National College for School Leadership, Steve Munby, visited Denbigh on Wednesday 17th October.
The National College works to develop and support great leaders of schools and early years settings so that they can make a positive difference to children's lives and Mr Munby wanted to visit Denbigh to see an outstanding secondary school in action.
During his visit he was treated to a 'flash mob' drama performance and was very impressed with the concept of Sports Academy and how sport was supporting students with their overall achievement and engagement.
He also visited students in the reading club who spoke with great enthusiasm about the progress they were making with their reading and the interventions that the school had in place to support them. Those he saw as part of the discussion forum were very articulate and confident, providing an excellent range of well-expressed responses to his questions.
One that stands out particularly is the feedback from Yacin Dirieh in form 117. He said that what he particularly likes about this school is the mutual respect between staff, students and families which enables everyone to succeed and give their best. Mr Munby said that the student leadership at Denbigh was matched only by two other schools of the very many he has visited during the seven years he has been in post.
