In September 2013 Denbigh’s PE department applied for the Association for Physical Education Quality Mark Award. The award is given to schools for demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in physical education and sport.
We are therefore very proud to announce that the school’s application for the award was successful after an external inspection and validation and that we have now received the highest level of recognition. This is a fantastic achievement for the school and it recognises the endless amount of work, high levels of commitment and positive efforts that the PE department provides, including the teaching of high quality lessons and extending the learning of all students outside of the classroom through extra-curricular and community sport opportunities.
Denbigh’s Executive Principal, Dame Yasmin Bevan, said: “We are delighted that this award recognises our commitment to the physical and mental wellbeing of our students and to the excellent standards in PE and sport that have been developed over many years. Our students engage enthusiastically in competitions and physical activity and the very high standards they achieve are reflected in all their other subjects.”
Mr Smith, Specialist Leader for PE and Sports said: “I am very proud to work at Denbigh High School, it is a fantastic school, with wonderful facilities and an outstanding PE department. The students here are extremely committed to taking part in sport and understand the importance of regular exercise during PE lessons, extra-curricular activities and community clubs. As a school, all staff and students embrace PE and sport and this is evident by the schools positive sporting ethos and success. Here at Denbigh High School PE and sport is embedded in student’s daily routines and the PE department continue to motivate, inspire and have a positive impact on all student lives through the power of sport.”
