Denbigh students win Enterprise Award

7 June 2010

This year's Young Enterprise team called Simple As' have returned from the 2010 county final with a special award and an impressive trophy.

Since September this team of year 10 pupils have been working hard to establish their own small business. Their company decided to produce a range of products to make life more simple for people and their first product is called the Simple AsYearly 10'. The product is a pack of handmade greetings cards that cover all the major holidays in the year. The cards were produced from recycled materials and the decorations were sourced locally to keep the company's carbon footprint as low as possible.

On Thursday 22nd of April the team travelled to Flitwick to take part in the Young Enterprise Bedfordshire County Final. They had to set up a trade stand to show off their product and faced tough questions from a team of judges made up of successful business people. They also had to hand in their company report which detailed the company's progress and their financial records before performing a five minute presentation about their product.

The teams Marketing Director Hafsah Begum said: At the end of all the presentations, everyone was escorted to a room where we were given refreshments and had to wait for the final announcements of the winners. Every second of the evening was a nail biting experience!

After the judges had deliberated they announced the winners in each category. Although Simple As weren't able to win the overall event they did win the Special Environmental Award for their eco friendly product. Well done to all of you for a great achievement.
