Denbigh becomes FA Charter Standard County Winner

18 December 2007

Denbigh High School has become the FA Charter Standard County Winner out of all the Specialist Sports Colleges in the county.

The FA Charter Standard Schools scheme recognises and rewards schools who provide a high quality football programme. The aim of the scheme is to raise standards in physical education and football by encouraging and supporting schools to become FA Charter Standard Schools.

Since becoming a Specialist Sports College' in 2005 the provision and standard of sporting activities at Denbigh has increased significantly.

In the latest Ofsted report where the school was classed as Outstanding', Ofsted made the following comment: The sports college has had a significant influence on enhancing the curriculum and providing for pupils' personal development. The report then went on to praise the high quality of the teaching and learning within the Physical Education department.

The Specialist Sports College status and our provision for physical education and sport has also ensured that all of our pupils have outstanding opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles.

Our commitment to the local community and our continual engagement and collaboration with other schools and local agencies is also an important aspect of our work as we continue to provide sporting opportunities for young people and adults within Luton.

James Slack, the Football Development Officer for the Bedfordshire FA said: When picking our county winners we look for schools which are committed to developing football for their pupils and creating sustainable provisions for football. This may be through hosting Junior Football organiser courses and identifying young leaders within the schools or teachers wanting to further their coaching qualification, and in turn provide better coaching for the pupils.

Acting Headteacher, Stuart Moore said: We are absolutely delighted to be awarded this accolade which is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our staff and the excellent sporting opportunities that we provide for our young people.
