Denbigh achieves Eco-Schools Silver Award

22 September 2008
We are delighted to announce that the school has received the Eco-schools Silver Award.
The award is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our Eco-Warriors action team and the commitment that the school has made to promote sustainable development and embed the ethos of sustainability into our day-to-day operations.
The Eco-Warriors team includes Mrs Kelly, Mr Clarke, Miss Gains and the following students:
  • Nishit Biswas
  • Imran Shah
  • Jordan Khan
  • Gary Chimuzinga
  • Niloy Biswas
  • Rachel Hussey
In order for the school to receive the award the Eco-Warriors team have had to demonstrate that they have met a range of criteria that includes:
  • completing an environmental review
  • producing a detailed action plan and sharing the plan with the rest of the school community
  • developing a range of sustainability initiatives across the school including one large scale project.
The school also works in partnership with suppliers and other partners to ensure that we promote effective environmental and socially responsible best practice throughout the elements of our supply chain.
We recognise that schools have a special role to play in securing the future for young people and in preparing them for a lifetime of sustainable living and we ensure that learning about sustainability issues is integrated throughout the curriculum.
We give students the opportunity to take ownership of environmental initiatives. We ensure that this work contributes towards and supports academic performance and that pupils are at the centre of the work that we do towards sustainable schools.
Well done to the Eco-Warriors and everyone else who was involved in helping us to achieve this award.
